Launched in 2017 as part of Hong Kong's booming tag rugby movement, Kingfish Tag Rugby emerged from the Redsip HKTag Challenge, where our youthful squad of sprinters, students, and expats first made waves in Group 1 alongside teams like the Hashtags and Habitual Barbarians. Inspired by the swift, powerful kingfish that cut through Hong Kong's coastal waters, we started as a mixed-gender crew united by a love for fast-paced, tackle-free rugby league.
From those early pitches at Happy Valley to dominating the HKTag Super League, we've grown into a powerhouse with programs for all ages and abilities. We've navigated humid summers, diverse lineups, and the non-contact ethos that makes tag rugby accessible to everyone—from 14-year-old rookies to seasoned players—while representing the spirit of Hong Kong's inclusive sports community.
Milestones & Victories
2017 – The First Splash Kingfish debuts in the Redsip HKTag Challenge with a youthful mixed squad, blending Grade 11 sprinters and seniors for an unforgettable Group 1 run.
2018 – World Cup Warriors Selected for Hong Kong's national tag team, our players help prep for the inaugural Tag World Cup in Australia, putting HKTag on the global map.
2020 – Super League Surge Storm into the HKTag Super League finals amid the pandemic pivot, showcasing resilience with virtual trainings and safe, outdoor comebacks.
2022 – Inclusive Expansion Launch junior and women's programs, welcoming over 50 new players and partnering with local schools for Tag for All sessions.
2024 – Battle of Origin Glory Claim victory in the annual Battle of Origin, dominating interstate rivals and solidifying our rep as HK's swiftest squad.
2025 – Summer League Champions Cup winners in the HKTag Summer League 2025, defeating top contenders in a high-energy finale—Kingfish on the rise!
